History 2blu

The game of Three Card Poker was originally created for the UK players and was developed by a guy called Derek Webb. In the mid-90s, Webb was looking to create a new form of poker that could grab the attention of casino-goers but still feature the key elements of table games - primarily speed and a healthy payout. By 1997, the game had been patented but it may interest you to know that the primitive origins of the game go much further back.

Some people make a link to a game played as far back as the Renaissance, in Italy called Primero which later evolved in Great Britain to be known as Bragg. Then, along came Webb who developed this game into Casino Bragg and Three Card Poker and whilst he struggled to get it recognized in the US casinos, his perseverance paid off when in the late 90s the game really took off.

How to Play 557110

3 card poker is a game that is simple to learn and relatively easy to master, hence its popularity. Let's take a look at how to play.

  1. At the beginning of the game, the player needs to place what is known as an ante and play wager. The hope is to end the game with a pair or better. The player may also place a pair plus wager (you will know more going forward).
  2. The dealer places three cards, face down for each of the players. In this version of the game, players do not play against each others but rather, against the dealer.
  3. Each player now takes a look at their hand and decides whether to place a wager or not. This must be equal to the wager they made at the beginning of the game (ante wager).
  4. Should the player decide to fold, that hand will be over, at which point the dealer collects their pair plus and ante wagers. However, should the player place another wager, all cards will be revealed to determine who has the better hand.
  5. If the dealer's hand is Jack-high or lower, then the player gets the play wager back. If the dealer's hand is the Queen-high or more, then the ante bet and the game bet pay 1 to 1 in case the player's hand is better than the banker's hand.
  6. If it is the dealer who has the better hand, then he collect both the play and ante wagers.

Pair plus
Is an optional bet that the player can place in the ante phase. The result of the pair plus is evaluated only through the ranking of the player's hand; the banker's hand is irrelevant. Player lose the bet if he get nothing in his hand, and win with a pair or better. The typical pair plus table is as follows:

Hand Straight Flush Three of a Kind Straight Flush Pair
Payout 40 to 1 30 to 1 6 to 1 4 to 1 1 to 1

Ante and Play
An ante bet is made before the cards are dealt. After a 3-card hand is dealt, a decision can be:

  • Fold and lose the ante bet.
  • Play and make a further wager equal to the ante bet.

If the player decide to play, the cards in the dealer's hand are revealed and a showdown is called. If the dealer has a better hand or queen on his card, then he qualify. The Ante and play result is calculated comparing the score of the player's hand with the score of the dealer if he qualify.

Game Tips 2s17n

To get the most of out the game, here are some handy tips to follow during the play.

  • A general rule of thumb tells us that if your hand is better than Queen, 6 and 4 you should play, however, if the hand is worse, you should fold.
  • Pair plus bets allow you to win whenever your hand features a pair, flush, three of a kind, straight flush or straight. We suggest to always use this option.

Should the player and the dealer have the same high card, the second-highest card will be used to break the tie.
